Dr. Kate Queen, M.D.

Co-Founder and Medical Director

Dr. Queen—our Co-Founder and Medical Director—has practiced medicine for over 30 years, first as a public health nurse, and then as a medical doctor.

Throughout that time she has maintained a strong focus on preventive healthcare and lifestyle medicine, especially working on comprehensive management of chronic diseases—including as a rheumatologist caring for individuals with bone, joint and muscle diseases, as well as serious systemic inflammatory conditions.

Together with her Co-Founders, Dr. Queen founded Whole Health Partners with a vision of reimagining what preventive care could look like.

Dr Queen believes that it is imperative we change our systems of care to keep them relevant, and has taken on many leadership roles including developing and then directing a medical fitness facility at her community hospital, as well as founding and directing their regional osteoporosis center.

Throughout those efforts, she guided these institutions to promote physical activity, nutrition and self management skills so that care for chronic conditions was comprehensive, and not simply focused on medications and surgery.

Dr Queen has been recognized by her peers for her excellence in patient care, having been named to the Best Doctors list annually since 2001; and was awarded the prestigious UNC School of Medicine Distinguished Service award for her leadership in 2016. She is Board Certified in Lifestyle Medicine and Obesity Medicine.

Together with her Co-Founders, Dr. Queen founded Whole Health Partners with a vision of reimagining what preventive care could look like. The idea was not simply to integrate lifestyle factors such as diet, movement, mental wellness and sleep with more conventional medical care, but also to create an infrastructure and a culture for providing long-term, sustained support and peer encouragement.

For Dr Queen, leading a healthy life wouldn’t be complete without time out of doors and sharing her passion for healthy eating and family support with her children and grandchildren.
